In Loving Memory of Smokey 2013 – 2025
From Doug Gorham
Smokey came into our lives in February 2013 as a rescue, and from the very beginning, he brought comfort, joy, and unconditional love. He was given to my father and quickly became a deeply cherished member of the family. The bond between them was unshakable—Smokey was always by my dad’s side, his constant companion and devoted friend.
When my father passed away from COVID in January 2021, Smokey came to live with me. In the midst of unimaginable grief, he became a source of strength and solace—an emotional anchor during one of the darkest chapters of my life. Although I had seen him often during the eight years he lived with my parents, the connection we formed after my dad’s passing was something truly profound.
Smokey had a quiet way of always being there—following me outside, staying close no matter what I was doing. His presence brought a sense of calm and warmth that words can never fully capture.
Just a month ago, Smokey developed a sudden limp. It was soon discovered he had cancer. The diagnosis and his passing came far too quickly, leaving our hearts shattered and struggling to process the loss.
Smokey was more than a pet—he was family. His memory will forever live in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He brought light into our lives, and his absence is deeply felt. We will always be grateful for the years of love, loyalty, and companionship he gave so freely.
